The island of St. Martin/St.Maarten is very unique as no conversation about it would begin without acknowledging a bizarre truth first. This fact is that this particular island is divided into two parts. One part belongs to France and the other to Netherlands.
The two countries even named each side of the island differently. The French calls their side St. Martin Island while the Dutch calls their side St. Maarten. The French side has more land so it is only natural that the Dutch side has more beaches. However, even though the Dutch side offers more beaches, the most popular beach, the Orient Beach, of the island is on the French side. The Orient Beach attracts tourists from all over the world with its shimmering natural beauty.
St. Martin Island beaches are blessed to be white sandy beaches. There are a total of 37 beaches in the entire island. All of them are gorgeous, each with its unique appeal and atmosphere. As a vacationer, you may select from the isolated romantic little coves to beaches where non-stop activities are happening all day and all night.
If you want to surf, there are also beaches with waves high enough which provide more excitement to your surfing experience. If you are traveling with your spouse and kids, beaches with calm waves are the most ideal for you. The more busy bays are perfect venues for all kinds of water sports such as surfing; jet skiing, parasailing, wakes boarding, skim boarding, and the like. These beaches are also ideal for snorkeling and even for beach volleyball. On the other hand, the more secluded coves are best venues for private retreats and also for honeymooners as these coves provide a very romantic ambiance.
Aside from the Orient Beach, there are other St. Martin Island beaches that are also well-known worldwide. Three of these are the Mullet Bay Beach, the Dawn Beach, and the Little Bay Beach.
The Mullet Bay Beach is the most ideal for swimming while the Dawn Beach is famous for its breath taking views especially the sunrises, and the Little Bay Beach has calm clear waters which snorkelers usually prefer as excellent visibility is present.
The other beach that is slowly getting acknowledgment in the island includes the Maho Beach, the Simpson Bay Beach, and the Cupecoy Beach. The Maho Beach offers the unusual thrill of planes passing over their heads as they swim towards the runway which is nearby. You may rent wet bikes in this beach. One thing you would want when in vacation is privacy especially if you are in your honeymoon.
The Simpson Bay Beach might be the perfect beach for you as this beach is one of the most private beaches in the island. Water sports are not allowed in this beach so you may simply relax without felling very toxic because most people are commonly on the more busy beaches.
The Cupecoy Beach is another well-preserved landscape with genuine white sand, sandstone cliffs, and shoreline caves. This beach lies near the border of the French side so the dress code is naturally influenced by the beaches in the French side of the island meaning it may be modest to nudist.
These beaches are just some of the 37 St. Martin/St. Maarten Island beaches, more and more of the other beaches are slowly starting to get some recognition.
