For several years now, St. Martin/St. Maarten Island is considered to be the most thrilling vacation destination in all Europe. Most people from other countries visit the island for total relaxation with its beautiful beaches and hospitable people. Most of them come for as vacation, but that notion might change in a few years time as real estate buyers have discovered the island and already introduced the idea of actually living on the island.

With that being said, the island is slowly becoming one of the world’s most celebrated locations to own a residence. Several reputable and competent realtors are present in St. Martin/St. Maarten Island but there are no certain multiple listing services available for the buyer. Looking for the best possible St. Martin real estate may take a lot of time as there are plenty of real estate offices that you need to pay a visit to. This way, you would be able to decide wisely. After all, we are talking about a very large amount of cash so it is best advised to make decisions very carefully.

The Dutch side of the island is leading the strong real estate market. New luxury developments are being constructed around the coast. Construction of taller buildings with condominiums in it is also becoming more ordinary as well. Buying a property in the island would be a wise investment as values for home and condominiums re-sales are constantly increasing. Due to the some similarities to life in the US, American buyers seem to be leaning towards to the Dutch side of the island.

First, English is the common language spoke and the currency used is the US Dollar. Other resemblance to the American way of living is that electricity outlets are 110 volts and supermarkets offer a wide variety of American products. Fast food restaurants are present in the area and US cable TV is typical. The most important reason why buyers from the US prefers the Dutch side of the island is that most of the properties are designed and built with the American buyer in mind.

On the other hand, the French side of the island follows the same standards as continental France because it is a fully European Territory. Primarily, the French side has been slower when it comes to real estate development as people are more concerned in retaining the natural beauty of the island. However, without the attractiveness of the French side, the Dutch side of the island would not be as successful on its own. The French also gives importance to the non-stop entertainment and activity of the Dutch therefore both sides need and rely on each other to continue to develop and at the same time preserve the natural beauty of the whole island.

European Union citizens may settle work in any part of the island without asking any permission and foreigners specifically Americans and Canadians may own a St. Martin/St. Maarten real estate in the island and would have no problem at all. Unbelievably, English is the primary language spoke by the French who live in the island so American investors would not experience any communication problem with the locals and in dealing with the administration and public services.
